These Fall Haircut Trends Will Be Everywhere in 2024

Date:

As we are all set to embrace the cooler weather, and some of the most exciting fall haircuts. Aside from our favorite pumpkin-spiced lattes, there is a lot to look forward to. The leading hairstylists have already shared their insights. Naturally, shorter lengths tend to come in as the weather gets cooler. It isn’t going to be any different this year either. Oh, and let’s not forget the ’90s influence on our looks. Now that summer is almost over, it’s the perfect time to bring your bangs back if you have been wearing them off your face. It’s about what’s happening with our clothes, but just the same, our hair is going to be much layered this season.

Here is everything you need to know about the major fall haircuts 2024.

Crobs

It may seem odd to cut our hair short as autumn is coming, and we cannot wait to finally bundle up in all those big sweaters. Yet autumn is a perfect time to trim your hair as short as requested. Rachel Bodt, the colorist at the Red Door Salon and Spa says, if you trim your locks in the autumn, you give them enough time to grow out by summer so that you can style them any way you want again. This fall, you can also take advantage of ’90s nostalgia as shorter hair is going to be a very big trend. According to celebrity hairstylist and ColorWow International Creative Director Dom Seeley, shorter hair is going to be the major trend of fall 2024. If you cannot choose between a bob and an even shorter option, c rob or a cropped bob is your best bet.

‘Picture cropped hair that’s not quite a pixie but shorter than a bob, similar to Natalie Imbruglia’s iconic ’90s look,’ says Seeley. ‘Or think textured, shorter bobs with wispy lengths and movement throughout.’ Although the ’90s have recently inspired a lot of medium and long haircuts. The trend takes a cropped form, which is perfect for anyone who isn’t ready to opt for a pixie cut.

Leah Hill, a professional hairstylist and Aveda educator, claims that curly and coily clients are asking for shorter cuts even more now. “I’ve been doing more and more short cuts lately. The ‘big chop’ is still a thing but remember that pixie styles can be very high maintenance,” she says.

Draped Fringes

Fall is clearly the season of fringes so you will definitely see a plethora of them. As a bonus, the style is perfect for cutting your sun-damaged strands off while maintaining perfect framing. As Tom Smith, one of the leading hairstylists and trend forecasters, claims, this season’s desired curtain bang is a true embodiment of hygge, the joy of cozy, and warm which also helps freshen up the face-framing hair that lay in the damage line after a summer. Bangs will be embraced in any cut. “Bang detail is in huge revival mode and there is something out there for everyone, from wispy and blunt to curtain like Sabrina Carpenter. I am loving the ‘blow-dry’ bang that has a good amount of full separation but it is not too wispy,” Hill says. The style can be incorporated into any haircut and provide your hair with lifted volume. Besides Sabrina Carpenter, Daisy Edgar-Jones may also serve as a great fringe-inspired icon.

Hill also mentions that it will be easier to maintain your fringe in the winter since you will be less sweaty and, therefore, your fringe will stay in place. “A lot of long-haired people are worried that their hair will not look good with a fringe but bangs can really change up the whole look and make you feel new again!” Hill adds. In case you are still in doubt, try a clip-in version. “Beauty Works has just released a clip-in fringe with Maya Jama which is an ideal way to have some fun without the commitment. They can be cut in to suit whatever style you’re after and really refresh your hair look love,” Seeley says.

Billowy Lengths

In contrast to the crob, there’s also a trend towards ultra-long, airy, and whimsical billowy lengths, shaped with gentle layers. “Long hair is becoming softer and flowier, with dimension and movement throughout the face-framing sections,” predicts Seeley. “Butterfly layering will continue to be huge as it’s versatile and retains length while allowing for playful texture and volume.”

This cut features voluminous, fluttery layers and swishy chin-length pieces that frame the face. “It works with any hair length, but it especially promotes volume and movement, opening up the face. Plus, it can be styled in various ways, thanks to the layers,” says Seeley. Hill agrees, adding, “The easiest way to modernize a long haircut is by adding texture. Layers instantly add shape and movement.”

Tailored Midi

For those who find themselves somewhere in the middle, the tailored midi cut is the perfect choice. It provides enough length to style your hair up while offering the crispness of a bob. “Blunt, clean mid-length cuts will be huge this autumn,” says Seeley. “They keep the hair healthy, promote thickness and volume, and give an effortless, cool-girl vibe.”

But if you want to incorporate some autumn layering, you can customize the cut to suit your style. “A blunt cut doesn’t work for everyone, so consider adding layers and movement. Internal layering is especially great choice if you have natural texture, as it enhances what you already have. The ’90s hair inspirations at this length are a great reference,” says Seeley. “As much as ‘The Rachel’ is always mentioned, it’s just a perfect example that mid-length hair doesn’t have to be boring.”

Cloud Curls

There’s a time and place for twists and coils, waves and texture, but all prove particularly beautiful in the autumn, when the weather is cool enough to stop the sculpting and let the hair flourish in its full form. One forthcoming trend involves fluffy, teased curls. It’s all about natural, airy, and textured waves or curls with a ‘halo’ of intentional ‘fluff’ that gives a youthful, ethereal, and carefree feel, says Smith. The stylist calls it ‘cloud curls’. ‘It’s perfect for longer or naturally textured hair,’ notes Smith, adding that it’s a relaxed style that will allow us to take the summer spirit into the autumn. To achieve this look, she advises the following: ‘If you are lucky enough to have natural texture, air dry and separate hair. Otherwise, after rough drying, plait your hair just before reaching full dryness and cooling. Let it sit, then break up with your fingers.’ For a polished finish, use a small curling iron with small sections, curling each in different directions, Smith adds. Finish with styling powder or texturizing spray, and shake hair upside down and enjoy your fluffy, airy curls!

This sort of a look is stunning from a “curated” perspective. ‘When cutting curly and coily hair, it’s about creating something to enhance your unique features,’ says Hill. ‘Textured hair needs to be cut in 3D,’ she adds.

Nara Bob

No fall haircut round-up would be complete without a bob. The classic cut is still a hit as we head into the autumn, with Hill discussing a particular instance of it: the ‘Nara-Noa bob’. It’s named after the fashion model and influencer.

It’s a strong, one-length bob with a side part that exudes chic, effortless glam,” says Hill. Plus, it’s low-maintenance. “A one-length bob with slight layering and texture is far less upkeep than a graduated cut,” she explains. “The baseline grows out naturally with the layers, making it easy to style, unlike a pixie or graduated bob.”

To sum up, fall 2024 brings a plethora of haircut trends, and you’re sure to find something that suits every style and taste – whether you’re a fan of shorter or longer locks. Make this season count by adapting a fresh haircut that not only accentuates your hair type but also resonates with your personal style.
